Sensory Processing Disorder

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a neurological condition that affects the way the brain processes sensory information. Individuals with SPD may experience difficulty processing information from the five senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound), as well as the sense of movement and body position (proprioception). This can lead to an under- or over-sensitivity to sensory input, causing discomfort, anxiety, and difficulty with daily tasks. SPD is often associated with other conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and anxiety. Treatment for SPD often involves occupational therapy to help individuals develop coping mechanisms and strategies to manage sensory input and improve daily functioning.
