The reserve was established in 1955 and consists of the Tadoba National Park and the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Tadoba National Park is one of India’s best-protected tiger sanctuaries, covering an area of around 625.4 sq km.

In 1955, Tadoba National Park in Maharashtra, which covers an area of 116.54 sq km, was designated as a national park. The Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was built near Tadoba National Park in 1986.The Tiger Reserve covers a land area of 1,727 square kilometres. According to the National Census, there were 43 tigers in 2010 in Tadoba Tiger Reserve. Local tribal people worship the god Tadoba.
