Seattle landlord Carl Haglund thinks that the restrictions imposed during the pandemic are to blame for a rise in rent skippers. Haglund contends that the problem is the city’s recently passed legislation, which makes it more challenging for us to evict the renters successfully and boosts the cost of doing so under this COVID restriction. Haglund mentioned the instance of a specific tenant, whose name will be withheld by KING 5, who allegedly hasn’t cleaned up after his animals in months. According to Haglund, the tenant is also behind on their rent payments. It’s estimated that 10% or more of the landlord’s many tenants are behind on their rent.
