October 17, 2022 ⚊ 1 Min read ⚊ Views 110 ⚊ SPORTSKarate is a historied martial art that started out in Japan, but it wasn’t always a systemized one. Its transformation into the Karate we know now took place in Okinawa, with the input of Chinese immigrants to the area. The formation of a worldwide governing body for the sport is fairly recent if compared to the span of time it’s been in practice. The largest such body, the World Karate Federation, was established towards the end of 1970. With 198 member states sending their competitors in, the WKF sets Karate’s standard for today. It’s also the only body with recognition from the Olympic Committee. The rankings produced by WKF are along many different divisions and lines, and right now we’re looking at the top 10 fighters in different weight divisions across men and women’s categories.
